Correspondence, photographs, provenance records, inventories, appraisals, financial documents and estate records document Peter Davidson's association with the daughter and grandchildren of artist J. Alden Weir. Davidson handled family art collections, acted as an advisor on Weir Farm preservation efforts, and helped to establish a foundation to promote Weir's work. The bulk of the records (Weir Family, 1957-1991) detail the appraisal, restoration, documentation, exhibition and sale of artworks owned by the Weir family, works primarily by J. Alden Weir, his daughter Dorothy Weir Young, and her husband Mahonri M. Young. Other artists represented in the family collections are Robert W. Weir, John Ferguson Weir, John Henry Twachtman, Childe Hassam, Winslow Homer, Theodore Robinson, and Frank Duveneck. Includes over 400 primarily black and white photographs of works of art, the majority by J. Alden Weir. Correspondence with Brigham Young University (1979-1989) concerns efforts of the Weir family to reacquire works sold to BYU in 1959. Also contains photo inventories of Dorothy Weir Young's work, and research files and photographs for a proposed catalogue raisonneĢ of Mahonri M. Young's works. Weir Farm records (1978-1991) contain correspondence, meeting minutes, maps, reports, and newspaper and magazine articles documenting efforts to designate J. Alden Weir's Branchville, Connecticut home and studio a national park. Includes one folder of correspondence (1978-1988) from Doris and Andrew Sperry, Weir Farm artists-in-residence. Weir Foundation records (1982-1986) consist of one folder of correspondence.
